Vuokatti

is situated in the Finnish province of Kainuu. 

 
Largely forested flatlands and linked lake and river systems with some local hills and high grounds. A region of many contrasts.

Nature in Kainuu is softer, more relaxed, than the “stony” cliché of Scandinavian landscape. Keeping the wilderness experience close at hand it has a real outdoors sensation.

Arctic light is a simple pleasure in all its variety and the emotions that water in its liquid or frozen form create are deeper than we might expect.

Unsere Reise von Helsinki nach Vuokatti mit dem Nachtzug 

Our travel with the night-train from Helsinki to Vuokatti

 

Travelstart 7th April 21.30 hours from Helsinki by train to Kajaani - arrived 7.10 hours in the morning of the 8th April

 

We called Bernd Huebl, he was already arrived at Kajaani in the evening of the 7th April.

We had a meeting with Berndt soon and we drived with his rentcar at Vuokatti to the Holiday Club Katinkulta hotel.

SLADE slept in the same hotel .

 

 

We checked in and drived then with Berndt to the hotel Suvikas at Vuokatti, where Berndt booked the room.

Back to Holiday Club Katinkulta and Moni had the first meeting with John Berry, some questions about Dave and Don, but he has`nt know where they are.

We had a meeting with one of the organizers, he had the responsibillyti for all the bands.

 

   

We gave him our CD "Happy birthday " song for Dave Hill and he said us, that they will of course play the song for Dave and we can also go on stage an give to Dave our gifts and congratulations.     

We was happy and soon we had a meeting with Don, it was really nice to see him again :-)We had together coffe and tea and cake, we had a really good talk with him. Later cames also Dave and we toke some nice pics.

After the soundcheck we`ve got the message, that it is`nt possible to play our song for Dave and we could`nt go on stage :-(

Not one reason, WHY ??? Strange !!

We arranged before already a meeting with Don at the hotelbar and gave him also our roomnumber.

We meet also short Dave and arranged with him an interview. You can watch here:

Then back in our hotelroom, rest a little bit.

Knocking on the door ! :-) Don visited us in our hotelroom and we had a nice talk together, also recorded we with him a short movie, he maked promotion for his interview on rmnradio.

We went back to the hotelbar and had a very very nice talk with Don again. He was talking about his meeting with the Beatles ( but he meet never George Harrison, so he said ), he was talking about his time together with Ozzy Osborne. It was really interesting. THANKS so much to Don for this great time together.

Moni got really strong pains in the head and so we went to the hotelroom  and rest there, came back 1/2 hour before SLADE started to play.
The gig was amazing and the boyz was fantastic and in a great mood.

One of the audience started to sing " Happy Birthday to you" and the whole audience sang for Dave, it was fantastic and he was really happy about this.
 
After the concert we had a short meeting with Don for a drink and was in the bed 4.00 hours in the morning :-)

Breakfast with Don, later came also Dave and we gave to him the gifts, booklet, CD, also CD`s from other band, who like it to play in the support for Slade and all greetings from the fans, who sendet to us.
It was amazing to look at Dave and Don when they was watching the booklet.
Dave remembered very well on the gigs and mostly he got the memory back when he was look at his dress and huts.
We arranged with Dave and Don an meeting behind the hotel for say " Good Bye " - not " Good By T`Jane " :-)
Berndt came also int he morning in our hotel and so we was all together, when Slade drived away from Vuokatti.
Berndt was later in the same airplan with the band back to Helsinki.

Throughout history Kajaani has been an important place for Finland. Several sights here keep the knowledge about this for the visitors coming here. Founded in 1651 by Per Braahe Kajaani later was participating in the trade with tar, which was transported through Kajaani over the Oulujärvi and Oulujoki to the city of Oulu. From there it was shipped to all the big sea nations as it was used to make the wooden boats resistant against the sea water.

After parking my car my visit started with the beautiful church, whose tower can be seen when coming to downtown. Unfortunately for me there was a mess hold inside, so it was not possible to have a look inside. Nevertheless even the outside is a really beautiful sight. From the church I made my way to the central place in town, where the old wooden city hall is located and which is a good starting point to discover the other interesting sights.
Berndt drived by rentcar back to the airport, back with the same airplan as Slade to Helsinki, later back to Germany.
Thanks so much to Berndt on this place for take us by car and for the nicte time together at Vuokatti. We hope to see you soon, maybe on the 4th Juni at Duesslingen ??? It would be great !!
 
In the afternoon 14.56 hours our train started from Kajaani back to Helsinki.
 
Short break at  Kouvola railway station. We arrived in the evening 21.50 hours at Helsinki.
We had a great time, thanks for the memory !!!

Slade 08.04.2006, Vuokatti, Finnland

 

Unsere Reise startete am 7. April, 21.30, Uhr von Helsinki mit dem Zug nach Kajaani.
Ankunft: 7.10 Uhr am Morgen des 8. April
Wir riefen Berndt Huebl an (Slade-Fan aus München). Er war bereits am Vorabend in Kajaani eingetroffen. Bald darauf hatten wir unser erstes Treffen mit ihm und fuhren mit seinem Mietauto nach Vuokatti zum Holiday Club Katinkulta Hotel . Slade wohnten ebenfalls dort.
Moni hatte das erste Treffen mit John Berry im Hotel und stellte ihm einige Fragen, wo denn Don und Dave zu finden wären. Doch er wusste es im Moment auch nicht.
Später hatten wir ein Treffen mit einem der Eventorganisatoren, Jive. Er war verantwortlich für die Gruppen, ihre Auftritte und Soundchecks.
Wir gaben ihm unsere CD mit dem 'Happy Birthday'-Song für Dave Hill und er sagte uns, dass er den Song für Dave spielen möchte, als Überraschung, und dass wir auch auf die Bühne könnten, um Dave Hill zum Geburtstag zu gratulieren. Er war am 04.04.2006 60 Jahre jung geworden. Wir waren sehr zufrieden über seine Zusagen.
Wir waren sehr glücklich, als wir nach diesem Gespräch bereits ein Treffen mit Don Powell, dem Drummer hatten und es war so schön, ihn wiederzusehen.
Wir tranken zusammen Kaffe und Don lud uns ein. Wir hatten eine sehr nette Unterhaltung mit ihm. Er ist einfach großartig. Später gesellte sich noch Dave zu uns und so konnten wir noch ein paar nette Bilder machen.
Don nahm sich den ganzen Samstag Zeit für uns, es war fantastisch mit ihm den Tag zu verbringen. Wir konnten auch am Soundcheck teilhaben.
Nach dem Soundcheck erfuhren wir jedoch, dass man uns zuviel versprochen hatte und man den Song nicht spielen könne, da keine Unterbrechung des Auftrittes möglich sei.
Okay, wir hatten Verständnis dafür. Es gab nochmal ein kurzes Treffen mit Dave, bei dem wir kurze Videos mit ihm aufnehmen konnten.
Dave Hill spricht über 40 Jahre mit Slade. Und hier über die Aufnahme im 'RTL' TV-Studio: "Far Far Away" für 'Die ultimative Chart Show' am 04.04.2006 - an seinem Geburtstag.
Danach gingen wir in unser Hotelzimmer, um uns etwas auszuruhen. Auch Don nahm sich eine Pause zum Erfrischen und besuchte uns dann auf unserem Zimmer.
Wir hatten wieder eine nette Unterhaltung und baten ihn, ein wenig Werbung für das bevorstehende Interview, welches wir bereits per Telefon mit ihm aufgezeichnet hatten, zu machen. Don macht Werbung für sein Interview bei dem Internetradio RMN Radio am 15. Juli 2006 von 20-23 Uhr mit Paletti und Henni sowie Moni von Poprocknews.
Im Anschluss gingen wir zurück in die Hotelbar und hatten wiederum eine nette und lange Unterhaltung mit Don. Er sprach über die Beatles und darüber, dass er niemals George Harrison kennenlernte. Er sprach über seine Freundschaft zu Ozzy Osborne und vieles mehr.
Wir sind ihm dafür sehr sehr dankbar. Don Powell ist für uns der beste Drummer und ein sehr sehr sympathischer Mensch.
Nach 23.00 Uhr gingen wir in die 'Katinkulta Areena'.

Das Slade-Konzert war großartig und Dave in guter Stimmung, wie immer.
Einer im Publikum begann "Happy Birthday to you" zu singen und das gesamte Publikum stieg ein und sang für Dave. Es war großartig und sehr bewegend. Auch Dave war sehr glücklich darüber!
 
 Nach dem Konzert hatten wir noch ein Meeting mit Don auf einen Drink (er trinkt nur Tee) und wir waren dann um 4:00 Uhr am Morgen im Bett.
 Frühstück mit Don, später kam auch Dave dazu und wir gaben ihm, das eigens für ihn durch uns angefertigte Booklet, die CD mit dem Song für ihn, ebenso CDs von anderen Bands, die sehr gerne mal als Supportband für Slade auftreten würden. Wir richteten Dave auch alle Grüße von den Fans aus, die uns erreichten.
Es war so toll zu sehen, wie Dave das Booklet betrachtete.
Er erinnerte sich sehr gut an die Gigs und meistens kam seine Erinnerung zurück, indem er seine Kleidung ansah.
Wir verabredeten uns dann noch mit Don und Dave bei ihrer Abreise und trafen uns am Bus hinter dem Hotel um zu sagen:
"Good-bye" - nicht "Good By T' Jane" :-)
